flameandpassion | 43 [Accidental Video]

[The PCD is thrown, tossed aside, and it catches the last moments of Hino Rei's transformation into Sailor Mars. The flames and fire fall away to reveal the senshi of passion and war, her gloved fingers curled into fists as she stares, trembling with unreleased fury, at a large boulder, far in the distance.

Fire engulfs her hand as she reaches up to pull back her bow.]

Mars Flame Sniper!

[The arrow rockets from her fingers and, in the distance, a burst of flame -- it has hit its mark.

Without hesitation, Mars goes again.]

Mars Flame Sniper!

[Again, the arrow hits, and again, fire spreads from Mars' fingertips.]

Mars Flame Sniper!

[The boulder is now no longer there -- demolished during the second round of attack -- but the senshi doesn't seem to care.

She's beginning to grow winded, but snarls out the command regardless, the bow forming brighter than before -- ]

Mars -- Flame -- Sniper!

[The arrow flies from her fingertips, but the aim is off -- it sinks into the ground, skidding along the snow, creating a near tidal-wave of steam and water as the flames melt the ice. She stumbles backwards, her legs quivering with the effort, before she sinks to her knees in the snow, her fingers digging into the ground as she, finally, allows herself to cry.]

ooc: Cloud lost his memories, which makes for a seriously upset Sailor Mars.

I don't think that boulder deserved that.

[She doesn't respond -- her breathing is ragged. Whether or not she heard Spike doesn't show, but her fingers twitch slightly into the show.]

...Rei.

You need to save at least some of your energy for him.

[Maybe for now, Rei doesn't know what to do to help Cloud but he's not gone and he's not dead either. So obviously, she'll find a way to help him eventually.]

...

Remind me never to make Rei mad.

[Concern. Really.]

[Dammit.

He has no idea how to deal with a situation like this, but he can't leave her there either. He'll be there in about five minutes.

Think you can hold out that long, Hino?]

[She's not going to be going anywhere. She isn't properly aware the device is recording her, although Spike alerted her to it. She should probably turn it off, but Mars can't quite bring herself to move to do it.]

[She isn't mad. She's heartbroken. There's a very large and dangerous difference.]

[That causes an actual reaction.

Mars glances at the PCD, her hair shielding her face.]

... I have plenty to spare.

[He's quiet when he does approach. Quiet and slow. The frustration and helplessness is abundant in her release of energy, and he's long since figured out that it's better to say nothing at all than to say the wrong thing.]

[By the time Hitsugaya does arrive, Mars has slightly more control over herself, but her breathing is ragged. She feels him approach and, for a brief moment, Mars contemplates telling him to leave.

But she holds her tongue and takes a deep, rattling breath.]

Cloud doesn't remember who I am.

[It's far more difficult than she thought it would be, to say.]

[He stops when she speaks. He wants to ask how, but that doesn't seem appropriate.]

...Even memories taken by the animus have been regained in the past.

[Mars shifts to settle back on her heels, closing her eyes to focus on her thoughts. It helped only marginally.

There is a very long silence. Until, finally, almost inaudibly:]

It's going to happen to all of us, one day.

We're going to not recognize one another.

I don't know if I can handle that.

[Which, really, is why she's out here blowing up boulders in a fit of rage.]

[He knows it. He tries not to think about it every time he looks at Sasuke.

Hitsugaya Toushirou has never been an optimist, but he recognizes desperation when he sees it, and he knows how it feels.]

Not everyone here accepts that.

... Rei-san...

[He's trying, which she appreciates, far more than whatever he's actually saying. She's silent for a moment before she snorts to herself, an attempt to laugh, but it failed miserably.]

No, not everyone does.

[Usagi sure as hell doesn't. Mars, to a certain extent, didn't either. Not until her conversation with Alphonse. And not until Cloud looked at her blankly without any form of recognition.

Even if it had been just the knock to the head, even if the Animus weren't involved -- and, really, Mars can't shake her paranoia that this is punishment for going into the Inner City, however ridiculous and outlandish she knwos those fears are -- the pain and fear of it happening at a moment's notice was real. Painfully real.]

[She doesn't move immediately, but she hears you, Negi. She just doesn't trust herself to respond.]

[Dammit, Rei.]

... Rei-san, everything will be okay...

Thank you, Negi.

[It's quiet, nearly inaudible, but there.

Except it won't be okay. Because, for the first time, Mars knows how painful it is to just... not be recognized. And worse still, Cloud hadn't even left. It was a freak accident, but it left no time to grieve, to move on from the pain, to adjust.

It was just there.]

...It's another facet of the world the animus have control over. If we can usurp that control...

[He trails off. Somehow that doesn't seem entirely appropriate either.]

[But Rei, you're speaking to an optimist. There's always a good side to things.]

... you're worried about Mr. Cloud, right?

[Mars doesn't say anything as she pushes herself to her feet, dusting snow off of her legs and uniform silently.

It brings up another problem entirely. Something that has been bothering her. Something that she can never truly bring up with Usagi.

The senshi looks over at the shinigami with a frown.]

And if we did? Would you go home if you could, Toushirou?

[That doesn't get an answer, but the silence speaks volumes.]

...

If you want, I could cast some illusions so you don't have to keep destroying real things.

[Yep, he figured as much.]

He didn't die, Rei-san. The Animus didn't take his memories away from him. It isn't like the memories of my father that they took from me... there's a high chance that he will remember.

[Negi flashes a small smile, pausing a moment. God, he hopes he's being reassuring here.]

... when a few of my students and I went to the Magic World, we were all separated shortly after arrival. I don't remember it from my own memories, but from the memories that were given to me during that event in September...

One of my students, Yue, lost all memory of who she was, or who any of us were. When I found her, she had begun to learn magic, and had joined a band of soldiers - ah, well, guards might be the better word. But when she rejoined us, a dear friend of hers from the school was with us, and she began to walk her through everything. I don't know or remember if she had remembered everything yet, but... it was a very good start.

Don't lose faith, Rei-san. Everything will be all right. Mr. Cloud hasn't completely forgotten you. The information has just been temporarily locked away, in a sense, but I have faith that if you continue to talk to him and introduce him gently to ideas and memories, everything will turn out just fine.

[She listens, quietly. And, to a certain extent, it does make her feel better, slightly. But there's still that lingering voice, the ones that causes her to say softly:]

...But one day he will forget permanently, Negi.
