Hey, Adstringendum. I've got a question.

[Rei is sitting in a chair, in Castiel's impromptu study, with a worn book in her hands. An anthology of ghost stories. And, because of simple curiosity:]

Do you believe in ghosts?

[Scientists? What scientists? Fran is going to handle that part.]

[Ami noticed the book in Rei's hands and smiles warmly. It was great that Rei was reading--it would bring her such serenity, no doubt, but still...]

Ghost stories, of all things, Rei-chan?

Hey, to my credit, I was researching, but I got distracted.

[She closes the ghost story book with a sigh.]

Most of these are American urban legends. They're stupid.

[Ami offers a sympathetic smile.]

But interesting, right?

One should never fault research, Rei-chan!

Kind of interesting -- the Greek myths were more interesting than the ghost stories, but I couldn't resist.

Hmm..[Ami held her chin in thought, trying to remember what she knew of Western paranormal lore.]

The Greek myths tend to have more structure to them, at least as far as characterization goes, it seems.

[Ami knew her fair share of Greek mythology, if for anything, to better understand Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle.]

And American ghost stories seem to lack the background to make their ghost stories all that believable. [If you can believe ghost stories at all, really.]

I've been reading a lot of them thanks to the Animus.

[She's been trying to pin down names. Hrgh.]

And these ghost stories are just terrible.

Just ghost stories in general, Rei-chan, or American ones?

Any of them that are based around the idea of ghosts being scary.

[Rei rolls her eyes.]

They really aren't. It's a stupid basis for a story.

[Nervous smile.] Not to sound trite, but people fear that which they don't understand.
