[There is a pause before the girl that was in a dozen pieces begins to speak. Her voice is quiet, free of the normal conviction and bravado that she would normally have in such a situation.]

Tell me where I'm needed.

[She has no right to call the shots when this is half her fault.]

[He's not actually sure what she means when she first speaks, but he doesn't ask. More important things and all that.]

Northwest. Near the river. [Putting it to good use.]

[She hasn't broken down yet. She is only running on adrenaline and force of will -- to just keep going. But at Al's expression, and the question -- it nearly causes her to break into the sobs that she really needs to let out.

But her jaw tightens and her breathing becomes faster and Mars manages a tight:]

[And her voice breaks, but she manages to get a grip, though her voice becomes softer and less mechanic.]

-- I thought separating them, creating order among them, trying -- it would fix it and I was tired of not being able to keep people from dying and -- it had already been done with Aelia but it was a trick and when this -- Ekpyrosis --

[The more she talks, the more she babbles, until finally, something breaks, and the girl finally starts to cry. It's quiet, and barely there, but her breath is hitching, and her words are barely able to be made out.]

I wanted to make this city safer and I helped destroy it.

We'll put it right. But right now I need to know what you can handle right now.

We'll be stronger if we know.

[The river, good. He'll be safe there.]

What else is here besides Aelia and Ekpyrosis?

[Quietly. She's seen the creatures and the footage, but nothing actually concrete has been answered yet.]

[Silence.]

I died because she cut me in half.

The rest of what was my body happened after I was already dead.

[So -- she's lost a lot of blood, but being brought back and patched up enough to function and fight, if necessary.]

[She winces; she can't help it.]

Mars. I know if I said don't come, you'd still come anyway. [And she can understand that feeling of needing to make it right, of feeling it's her fault.]

But if anything happens and you don't feel like you can keep going, please go back at that point.

They die pretty easily, whatever they are. Basic weapons should be enough to get rid of them -- but I don't know where they're coming from.

[This she can focus on. Simple. But she has yet to see the actual witches. Only the familiars.]

[Another silence.]

[But it's not harsh or biting, but quiet.]

[She appreciates that honesty but...

After a moment, she makes her decision.]

Then I'll see you in a moment. And if something happens, we'll protect you.

[Why isn't he speaking? And an uncomfortable, sudden bolt of panic goes through her, because the entire world is falling apart and he stopped talking, but then she gets the coordinates -- and she stares down at them for a moment before she abruptly switches on the video.

Excuse your best friend. She's covered in blood.]

Toushirou, show me.

[Urgently -- and she's getting up to move toward a door, of where she is staying, to shove it open with a shoulder. Fire is outside, burning and constant, but she's not afraid of it, instead scanning the horizon in the direction of the nearest set of coordinates.]

-- Usagi.

[Seconds later.]

Toushirou found what was causing the chaos.

[And he had better not run off and go die on her because she will strangle him but she's sending coordinates -- ]

[That changes things.]

The first one. Go straight there instead of meeting up first. I'll be there right away too!

...What happened?

[After a moment, he does so. It's much more difficult to see the individual figures scattered about in the chaos, but you'd have to be blind not to see the three huge, spherical bubbles of energy, barriers, each pulsing erratically. Whatever is inside those, he doubts it's nice.]

[She stares at the scene through the PCD before she looks up, through the fire and soot, eyes narrowing slightly, to focus on that feeling. The darkness, the despair, the grief -- echoing from her own being into the darkness ahead of her -- and Mars sucks in a breath, her fingers clutching the doorframe as she forces herself to focus.

Falling apart and letting the guilt take her will not fix this. She needed to think -- and suddenly, something occurs to her, and she takes another step forward, fire bursting from her fingertips to create a barrier around her, to protect her from the falling gifts of Ekpyrosis.]

The three witches.

[Faintly, a quiet whisper -- Watanuki's vision come to life.

Focus. Focus. Focus. Focus. -- but no, she slams the door shut with a vicious hiss, before fire falls into the panic room that Castiel has put her in, to let herself have the tiniest amount of panic and fury, as she kicks over a stool on her way to the back of the room, toward another entrance.]

Damn it! Damn it --

[But as quick as her outburst is, it's gone in a heartbeat, as she forces herself to get a grip, and to shove down her panic and terror, because it has no place in a warzone.]

-- we need to kill whatever they are before this city tears itself apart. You said there were none in the northwestern quarter, right? So that's our new safezone.

[Or as good as it's going to get -- and she shoves open another door to a set of stairs. An old basement to a house that's long since gone.

There's one in her sector. Time to regroup and finish this before it starts.]
