The angels told me that they would just go back to their own world -- kind of like what happens when people die here and they don't come back. The Animus just send them home -- which is what they would do to the souls.

It's not perfect, but that's the best answer they could give me.

No, it is not perfect. It is impossible. The angels have no way of knowing what the animus will do. If they said they did, they lied.

But if in their world, the souls are returned to their rightful place, then it is possible they will be sent to the animus.

[Lucifer didn't say that he did, but Rei doesn't bother pointing that out. It makes sense, to her, that the Animus would send them home. What on earth would they want with them? They sent the dead home all the time --

But it's impossible to know for sure.]

I can't feel them anymore, Toushirou. I can't give you a better answer than the one they gave me.

Then I suppose you had better hope none of them decide to use your soul.

[He's not trying to accuse her. If anything, he's trying to make it clear how much danger she's putting herself in because of her constant involvement with the angels. But none-the-less, his warnings always seem to carry that unintended blame.]

Her tone is ice cold.

Because she definitely took that as an accusation.]

The only one of them that has ever hurt me is Lucifer, Toushirou, and that's not exactly surprising. He's the Devil. Castiel and Gabriel have risked their lives to protect me -- and everyone else in this city -- from him.

[And if Rei is right about her fire -- after Castiel volunteers to be her guinea pig for an experiment -- then she can defend herself properly.]

[Give her two minutes and she taps on the door lightly before opening it. See? Human manners, Cas. She's silent for a moment or two before she crosses her arms in the doorway, her teeth clenched together.

... she's pretty pissed.]

As she crosses her arms and appears so angry even he can tell, he's a little concerned, but altogether not too surprised. Everyone's mad at him lately. Her words, on the other hand...]

[She steps inside the room and closes the door behind her to lean against it, but her expression doesn't relax.]

[He has little to no desire to argue, so he just looks at her. He would ask who told her, but it wasn't necessary, because it could have been any of the other angels and it didn't matter which, ultimately.]

[She doesn't look away for a few minutes before she sighs, finally relaxing, her shoulders slumping slightly as she leans fully against the door.]

[He watches her a bit, so tired of people going off on him about the souls, and glad she seems to be a bit less angry now. He still doesn't feel like explaining any of the situation in more detail, so he's a bit short.]

[She frowns for a moment, at the tone, before she pushes herself up off the door.]

I'm sorry for being a jerk, but that -- I used to be able to feel them, Cas. What they wanted, what they feel -- I just want to make sure that they're going to be where they belong.

You'll be safer that way, anyway.

[And then, a genuine smile, even if it is small.]

[He relaxes slightly at the apology; he's not entirely certain about what it was bothering her, despite the explanation, however.]

Were you informed where they came from? They're condemned souls, from Hell. Wherever they go will be better than there.

[And that was Lucifer kept saying, going on about safety, like he actually cared. Castiel had a feeling he knew who had told Rei now, but it lets it go along with the comment. Instead, he focuses on the last statements.]
