Hey, Adstringendum. I've got a question.

[Rei is sitting in a chair, in Castiel's impromptu study, with a worn book in her hands. An anthology of ghost stories. And, because of simple curiosity:]

Do you believe in ghosts?

[Scientists? What scientists? Fran is going to handle that part.]

That's... that's not true, right? You're just trying to scare me! [She's... going to keep trying to believe that. But her eyes give her away as they slip up towards the ceiling, as if she can see to the higher floors.]

It is an ancient building. There are probably lots of spirits attached to it.

[WHAT IT'S COOL USAGI DEAD PEOPLE ARE AWESOME.]

[Do you know what she has to do to get these stories out of her head? DO YOU?]

Have you seen them before? [She's starting to be more and more worried, because Rei knows spirits. She can't really doubt it if Rei says it, but...

This is just teasing, right?

What, in the house?

[Not fair, not fair.] You're the one saying creepy things!! You should be telling me where!

I don't know, Usagi, they're pretty easy to see.

That's only if you're a priestess. [Or well, a priestess with real power like Rei, to be more precise.]

... Rei-chan, the temple isn't really haunted, is it? [Come to think of it, has she heard weird noises, too, or not?]

It probably is.

[Rei is being honest -- and she almost looks thoughtful.]

I haven't actually looked.

[The change produces a matching change in Usagi as she calms herself down.]

Really? But they haven't really bothered us, even if it is. But could it be? And if it is, did the Animus bring ghosts there?

Well, I know that spirits exist within this world.

[Nathaniel's summoned one.]

I'm sure the Animus brought them here the same as all of us.

So you still don't believe the Animus were brought here, too? Or do you mean when they got here, they started bringing us?

[It makes some sense. But if the Animus can bring people, gods, ghosts, the various creatures and animals here... They didn't really get an answer to the basic question:]

Just what are they?

I -- think the Animus were brought here by accident -- but the rest of us, and the buildings here, and the spirits -- that was their doing. Accident or not.

[Rei is quiet for a moment in thought.]

I don't really know anymore.

To tell the truth, I'm worried about what happens next, if people learn what can happen down there. Are we really all ready for that?

No idea, but I know that if we go see them again, I won't be able to get away without telling Cas or John.

[Especially since she and Nathaniel are, like. A thing. Or something. Rei can't even begin to think about that at the moment.]

[Well, good. Usagi told him to quit the 'I can't do it for her sake' and let Rei decide if she wanted to be with him.]

It might... be better not to say anything to the city, at least for now. [Of course, keeping the other senshi informed is different.]

[Now that she's said it, she seems to stick to it more firmly. She nods to herself.] We won't say anything yet.

[Aaaw. Well, he manned up! So, thank you, Usagi.]

I think Fran and Toushirou are working on compiling everything.

[It's her job as the senshi of love. Or something. (Actually, it just really is Rei's decision.)]

They're good at that sort of thing. They're really organized! And they'll think about what everyone should hear, too, I know that.

But something doesn't feel right about all of it. The animus have caused a lot of problems, but when they said Thalatte being there would taint that place... Is there something about the animus that hurts the places they go to? It might be another reason they don't want us coming to them. They could be thinking of that after all.

[Rei is quiet for a moment or two before shrugging her shoulders half an inch.]

The Animus should -- be left alone. Thalatte is just one of them, but --

[It's odd, to say, and Rei looks away. Nathaniel made her swear not to tell. So she won't tell. But she hadn't planned on Usagi asking about the spirits.]

Meeting them in person wasn't exactly a blast, right?

It wasn't, but, we weren't going because we wanted to. We were going because we needed answers. We still do. I don't think people will stay away, even now.

That's the risk we have to take.

Right. Whatever happens, we'll still figure it out. We'll do our best.

[So many things on her mind lately. It's starting to get a bit crowded in her thoughts.]

We should be glad, really. We went there and did all that, and no one was hurt.

[Hrn.]

There were dead bodies, down there.

[A morbid thought, but something that's sticking with her.]

[Usagi hasn't been able to shut them out either.]

That's what I meant before. People will try to use it, so we should be careful about what we say.

[Even for her, it's not hard to see that 'people really die somewhere' will result in people who want it as a way out... and people who want to be rid of enemies.]

[It could be useful, should they need a final solution. But Rei isn't going to say that one out loud.]

It's going to get out eventually.

But we'll see. Raven is setting up a meeting.

I'll come, too. I can't ignore something like this. [Or make Rei handle it alone for the senshi.]
