[Rei is sitting at a table, carefully writing out talismans on thin white strips of paper. Where she got the ink and brush is anyone's guess, but the work appears all-encompassing and extraordinarily important to her. After three or four minutes of concentration, the priestess glances at the video and smiles -- it appears clear that she has turned it on on purpose.]

I guess everyone is back to normal after last week and all of the animal friends have gone back to wherever they belong. The spirits here aren't exactly the nicest group around.

[Here, she pauses, as if reminded of something, and her expression grows more serious.]

Does anyone know if there's a temple in Adstringendum? A Shinto temple. If there is, can you tell me where it is?

I don't believe I've seen anything I recognize as Shinto, but then I'm not too familiar with that religion.

I figured it'd be a 'no', but I thought I'd ask. I'm a prietess. It'd be nice to have a piece of home, you know?

[She smiles at the newcomer, though.]

But I don't think I've met you before? I'm Rei.

I am sorry. I know how it is to miss the comforts of home.

[She's uncertain of what to call the older man, so settles for being polite.]

You may just call me Ukitake, or even Uki. I'm not sure how that one happened.

I am glad for that, at least.

[She grins.]

So what is it you do, in your world?

I am a Shinigami, a god of death.

[Because, you know, introducing yourself like that is completely normal.]

[Rei blinks.]

Oh, like Toushirou?

Yes, Hitsugaya-taichou and I are both captains of the Gotei 13 in our world.

Should I call you Ukitake-taichou, then?

[Hitsugaya doesn't get the same privilege, thanks to the yellow juice he took and an unfortunate circumstance.]

You may if you wish, though I would take no offense if you did not call me by my title.

[If Uki hears that, he'll want the story.]

[She brightens! This is her kinda captain.]

Well, Ukitake-taichou is sort of a mouthful, so I think I'll stick to Ukitake for now.

[Oh, Rei has already tormented the chibigami enough today, but maybe if it pops up in conversation... well, she's certainly a sharer of information. ♥]

What else do you do in your world, besides being a shinigami? You have to have some hobbies or something, it can't be all work and no play. You have friends here?

[Oh, most definitely. She's taken an instant shine to Uki. ♥]

I like gardening. I have my own bonsai tree and a bit of a garden here. I also write haiku when the inspiration takes hold. And I'm notorious for loving tea.

[He's easy to love.]

Sounds like a pretty peaceful life.

[Rei can appreciate that!]

Especially the tea part... and I have a bonsai tree, back home. I live in a temple. That's sort of why I asked in the first place... So my grandpa insisted on one. I'm pretty sure he just wanted it for the tourists.

[She blows the hair out of her eyes, exasperated.]

It's not bad, but then I'm pretty easily contented.

Your grandfather seems to care for the temple, though.

He's the head priest at the Hikawa Shrine, in Tokyo, where I come from. He's a little crazy and kind of an idiot sometimes, but he loves the temple and loves what he does. That's all that matters.

I see. He sounds lovely, if a little crazy.

He's my whole family, so I guess I'm stuck with him, right?

It's good to be close to your family and be able to depend on them.

Mmhmm.

[Rei's expression flickers for a moment, because family wise, she hasn't got much to speak of... but her smile is back in place in a second.]

Do you have a family?

I do. My parents have been gone for a while now, but I still have my seven siblings at home.

[Again, he says this as if it's completely normal to be one of EIGHT CHILDREN.]
