4 [Accidental Video]

[The PCD clicks on to darkness, at first, with the rustling of sheets and feathers. There is the quiet sound of sobbing, but it's controlled, as if the individual doesn't want anyone to hear. There's a 'woosh' and the PCD is knocked upright to show Rei sitting in her bed, shaking, her face buried in her hands. She looks exhausted, as if she's just woken up from a terrible nightmare. Tears are leaking through her fingers and hitting... what appears to be large white wings that are wrapped around herself. They, too, are trembling.]

They're not dead... they're not dead... it's just a nightmare, there's nothing bad happening, they're not even here...I wouldn't hurt them, I wouldn't...

[The voice sounds choked, forced, and desperate. She moves to push herself off of the bed, but thinks better of it. Instead, Rei wraps her newly grown wings around her, still ignorant of the PCD recording. It turns off.]

ooc: Rei has just had a nightmare about killing her friends, aka, her only family. Have at it. ♥ Also, for those that care, her wings are capable of flight because Sailor Moon physics are awesome.

[Because Rei can use a distraction and, quite frankly, this room is way too enclosed for her liking. Besides, this sounds interesting.]

I owe you tea and I want to see these wings of yours.

[He looked back at something out of view of the PCD before turning to Rei again.]

He should be asleep again in a few hours. Then it'd be fine.

Hm? -- oh, your friend.

[Her expression softens.]

Is he okay?

...He will be.

That's good.

We got off easy in comparison, I guess.

[Well, he would be fine so long as the pain got better instead of worse as time went by, and so long as nothing worse happened. Hitsugaya wasn't exactly optimistic, but seriously now, the shinobi had been through enough. The pain had better ease, or else he would have to go hunting for the animus instead of Aizen.]

We did. That's not a bad thing.

[Rei sincerely wishes he wouldn't go do that, as she imagines that wouldn't go over very well.]

Mm. No, it's not.

[She shakes her head a little -- her hair was going to be extraordinarily annoying with these massive things on her back this week -- and smiles.]

It's not. But I'll make tea for him, too.

I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

He'd better, good tea takes awhile to perfect.

[But it's only teasing, of course.]

[A sigh, though it wasn't so harsh and tired as before. Almost amused.]

Hey, it is difficult with the stuff I've got to use, here. It's not exactly quality material.

[Though the lack of harshness is a good sign!]

Or, well. If there's any here, I don't know where it is.

[Hitsugaya wouldn't be able to tell her anything about quality. He took what boxes and flavors he found in stores. He wasn't too picky as long as it wasn't sweet.]

Ukitake-taichou might know.

Hmm? -- oh! I've met him. He's a sweetheart. And probably. He said he liked tea.

...It's a passion of his, I suppose.

It's a good passion to have. Tea is great in any situation.

[She idly chews on her thumbnail, thinking. One can only talk about tea for so long before your mind wanders to other things. Nastier things.]

What happens if you die here, Toushirou?

[A sudden question, but it's an important one. She glances towards the PCD screen, serious. She can sense the spirits in Adstringendum, an immovable force that she can't quite read, and the spirits of the dead aren't likely to be treated kindly by such masters.]

[His expression hardened instantly. It had been some time since Hinamori had died, but apparently it hadn't been long enough.]

The soul doesn't move on. Considering the control the animus have, it stands to reason they're the reason behind it. The body remains a corpse for several days, then the soul returns having paid a price. It could be anything from the use of a limb, one of the five senses, or a memory.

[Rei listens intently, frowning slightly at the explanation. She pushes herself up, wings flaring slightly for balance, carefully cradling the PCD in a hand as she reaches for her bedside table, where she keeps her talismans.]

They have nothing better to do than torment the souls that are trying to be on their way? The spirits here have powers they don't deserve.

[And it only makes her nightmare more poignant. Should her friends ever arrive, if they're killed, what becomes of them? What would they lose?]

I can feel them, sometimes. It's like you're being watched.

Jerks. [Under her breath.]

It's unnatural. [The words didn't quite match his tone, which was a little distant.] But it's better than death.

[At that, however, he paused, his gaze moving to meet hers dead on.]

...Can you discern location or status when you feel them?

[She blinks for a moment before frowning.]

No. I can't... well, I can, but I can't. It's like they're not here most of the time... and it feels like they're all over the place. The only time I can really feel them is fifteen minutes or so before they talk on the network or before an event sets into place. It's like they're announcing their presence. And then they just leave.

Perhaps they're forced to manifest themselves in order to put their modifications into effect....

[She shrugs.]

Makes sense to me. A lot of spirits do manifest themselves in the physical world to interact with us, but these just feel wrong. Like they're not supposed to be here in the first place

Why?

They probably aren't. None of us are.

[A pause, and then a small sigh.]

The more I can find out about the animus, the more prepared I can be for what they do.
