Riku's PCD is offline.

[She sounds oddly... calm about the news, but those that know her well know that it's getting to her. First Makoto vanishes, then Rhode vanishes, making Tyki unstable, and now Riku.

Especially Riku. Because Rei knows what's lying in store for him when he returns home.

There's a quiet pause, as if she's about to continue with what she's going to say, before she shuts off her PCD.]

[it doesn't take him long, really, only taking enough time to slip his feet into his boots, putting a coat over his normal hoodie (mostly so she wouldn't yell at him for not wearing it) and to wrap a new, black scarf around his neck and grab his gloves.

He smiled when he saw her, lips curling up just lightly on the edges, the bright blue of his eyes twinkling as he reached her.

And without warning, wrapped his arms around her and did exactly as he had said over the PCD, the kiss gentle and soft.]

[She barely has time to say 'hello' before she's swept up. It just feels... right and before she can stop herself, her mind wanders just a little, focusing on a vague memory, of Usagi and Rei's first major fight together, against Beryl, in the snow.

Rei was dying. And before she had passed on, she had told Usagi that her one regret was not telling Yuuichirou she had loved him. That he would never know.

Keeping secrets.

Her eyes snap open and she gently presses against Cloud's chest for a moment, shaking her head.]

I have to tell you something.

[The first emotion to cause his mind and featured was confusion. It was unusual for her to push him away, unless he was taking things too far or was being stupid.

But her words flowed into his consciousness a moment later, and he moved away easily, giving her space.]

[Toushirou was going to kill her. Shit. Shit. Shit.]

... Toushirou and I are planning to infiltrate the Inner City, with Ulquiorra and Usagi.

[Okay, that? Was not what he had been expecting. And it takes him a moment to get caught up.]

In between the events. Toushirou and Usagi are going to watch the outside perimeter while Ulquiorra and I go inside.

[She's speaking quickly, because she knows he's going to be upset.]

To infiltrate, it's not an invasion, to see what we can find.

And you're telling me this now? Why, Rei? Why tell me now if you had no intention of doing it before?

[Upset really doesn't cover it, Rei.]

[She doesn't answer, her eyes averted. How can she say 'If I die, I didn't want to have anything I regretted'? Instead, she remains silent, wrapping her arms around her midsection.]

[He's cursing himself, internally, at least, for allowing himself to trust someone so fully, when it was more than apparent now that they didn't hold that same level of trust in him.]

[Her voice is quiet.]

[She hasn't told the senshi. She won't tell the other senshi. But she told him.

She sucks in a quick breath to exhale it, arms still around her midsection.]

... I'm the only one that can do it. And -- I have to. I have to do this, to keep this city safe, to try and take control, because I can't let these events keep happening and keep hurting people, Cloud. Usagi died because of one of them, so did Sasuke, you almost did, and so did Toushirou, I can't keep letting these things happen to the people that I care about and love.

Did you ever stop and think that maybe I'd be able to help you? You're not the only one who can protect the people you care about.

Of course I did. And I know that you can.

But it isn't just my plan.

[Hitsugaya trusts maybe three people in Adstringendum. Rei just happens to be one of them.]
