It's getting a lot harder to keep believing everything has a purpose in this place.

[There's a long rush of air as Rei exhales.]

It's almost as if the Animus don't want us here -- but if that's true, then why have I been here for over a year? Why have some people been here longer? What makes some of us different?

-- if anyone's got any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

[The only people Rei would need to tell, about Haruka vanishing, would be the senshi themselves. And the senshi, being the senshi, already know. So why repeat something painful?

.... Every person has a place in time and space, in history. Some are more important than others, and beings of time, as these Animus seem to be, given the physical make-up of this world, seem to be able to tell when someone is important and when they aren't.

Even though every single being is important, even the worst of them.

[A sigh] We all have a certain place in the way things go, the way time and history is written. Things can change, but so much of it is fixed. And for those people who hold key roles in fixed events, even 'gods' can't keep them from returning to the time and place they need to be. The hole it would rip in space and time would be irreplaceable. Entire events would cease to exist, because the course of history, the very make-up of the Universe would rip and sew together in a new way.

[He pauses for a moment, then] Your friend may have been needed back home, they may have been progressing in a way that, despite whatever is done to our memories upon our return, might have changed everything.

Time is fragile, in some cases. No matter how powerful a being you are, you have to be careful.

[She's silent, for a long moment, after that explanation. She likes that idea -- fixed points in time that cannot be changed. It lines up pretty well with what she believes so fiercely.

But soon, Rei draws in a breath.]

I wish Setsuna were here.

[A pause, before she continues, belatedly realizing the Doctor would have no idea what she's talking about.]

-- she controls space and time. Or she guards it -- it can't really be controlled, I guess. I wouldn't know. But she stays by the door of time and guards it, by herself, because it can't be messed around with. I've only been through it once, because someone was trying to change our future, and they needed to be stopped.

[Rei pauses again before she sucks in a breath, exhaling shakily.]

It must be why no one remembers this place. I've been here -- for so long, that if I had the chance, I would change so much -- so many decisions that shouldn't have been made and people that can be saved, but you can't do that, can you?

Everything happens for a reason.

[But it sounds almost mechanic, when she says it. Like she has to believe that that's why things come to pass. Nothing else will give her rest.]
